CORRUPTION IS THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Remember the glorious days when the Philippines was the no. 1 country here in Asia? I guess few of the people around the world knew about that. Well, let me just take you a short memory lane and reminisce the glorious days when the Philippines was the best in Asia. After the world war II, the Philippines was the best ally of the United States of America in Asia. China and Japan were not yet making waves before and they were still struggling in their economy and lifestyle, especially China. The exchange rate to a dollar was only 4 pesos and that was the best for the Philippines. Trade with other western countries continued and civil service has high regarded. The 50's, 60's and the 70's were best year the Philippines had. Honesty and integrity were the key points of the country. I remembered my grandmother telling me about her stories of the late president Ramon Magsaysay. For her, he was the best president the Philippines had after world war II. Land reform programs were initiated properly. President Ramon Magsaysay died on a plane crash and that was the start of another chapter in Philippine history.

Other Asian countries were respectful of the Filipinos. I recall a scene where in an airport, there is a separate line for the Filipino traveler. I know most of the people right now don';t know about that. Schools in the Philippines ranked best in the world. Other Asian countries needed to learn the basic farming techniques that now they claim their own. After all this successful accolades that I am telling, what went wrong? Everything boils down to the election process where the Filipinos elected the wrong one and the curse of failures continued to this time. I don't want to tell more about the successful history that the Philippines had. But I want to share my ideas on how to cut this bad chain and free the country from the bondage of poverty and corruption.

There were two major problems that I think were the main cause of this scenario that the Philippines is in right now. The first one is the rampant corruption. Corruption is too broad and so I will elaborate more about this. Corruption in small scale and in the big scale. Corruption in the small means that there is small scale corruption going on every where. Take for the example in the government offices, civil servant should always maintain a high decency in their work that they do. But the present image right now is that there are many government fixers around that you can tap and surely they will help you. I will just be straight, majority of the people working in civil offices are too lazy to do their job. In the police force, corruption is always a problem. I was in General Santos City, a city named after the great general who helped many people. Local traffic enforcers are collecting tongs from the traffic violators that they caught. Instead of sending the captured licenses, they just make an agreement with the violator and enforcer and the next thing you will see, the slow passing of money to the hands of the enforcer. What the hell was that! It is considered a small scale corruption. Let us go to the more or the larger scale of corruption. Here we don't speak of hundreds but millions or even billions. The Department of Public Works and Highways is the living testimony that corruption exist here in the Philippines. Why? It is because of their ghost projects and unfinished projects. When the people asked about the unfinished project, the answer would be: the budget was short to continue the project. Can that be so? Only in the Philippines. Another trophy of the corruption would be the House Of Representatives. You can see them in television, people in the floor area are called co9ngressmen, correct! These individuals are elected officials of the land to promulgate laws for the country and make their province or local areas productive by means of projects. But actually, that is no what is going on. These congressmen are just robbers in barongs. They are allocated millions of pesos that they don't use in good projects. They have a pork barrel fund that they use for personal matters rather for the tax payers. I guess I needed to stop and let the anger for these robbers cool down awhile. Senators, these are just another higher level of people that were elected to make laws in motion. But that is not the case right now. Please guys there are more issues of concern rather than the Brunei beauties and more. Try interrogating Villar for example. That would bring justice to the land and recommend people to be jailed or hanged for worst cases.

The presidency is said to be the highest position in the land. This position can also be very corrupt once we don't get the right man in that position. The current president in the Philippines is the perfect image of what a president should not be. I am using a positive statement right now and I want that to continue for the rest of the post in positive. I think we are in a position where we can change things that are happening right now. We have to implement what the laws say and make it work for us to change the form that we are in right now. Let us bring back the glory days were people living in the Philippines are respected here and abroad. let us regain our superiority in all, the the ranking of the most corrupt country in the world. There is hope and that starts in the May 10, 2010 elections.
